Bike Week Thunder Roads Florida’s Not to Miss List

While Bike Week is all about motorcycles, there are all kinds of places, people and sights to see while in the Daytona area. Below we have listed some of the scheduled events we think you should try to attend if you are in town for the famous Bike Week 2011. We will be doing articles on the events listed in yellow and we will be “in the house” with our cameras, so come out and join the fun. The bars that advertise with us are listed in colored text (please support our advertisers while in town) and there is an important paragraph to read also in colored text.

Some suggestions while visiting our part of Florida, if you enjoy getting on the bike and putting miles on your wheels:

Ride to Deland

Deland Bike Fest is March 3rd. Visit our watering holes in that area; which includes Dale’s Ales and Crossroads. Going south on 17 should bring you to Blue Springs where you can see manatees for a nominal charge in a beautiful park setting. Check out Samsula and the famous Cabbage Patch Bar home of the infamous Cole Slaw Wrestling. Take 44 to US 1 on your way back and stop in at First Turn in Port Orange for their wonderful outdoor tiki deck and food (you have to try their Firecracker Shrimp).

Ride to St. Augustine

Go A1A N and visit St. Augustine. Our places for a brew or two include, Sandbar, Bar None, Gigglin’ Gator, Mardi Gras’. The End Zone and Haley’s Pub. While visiting this historic city take in the old town walking area, the fort, the lighthouse, Ripley’s Museum or my personal favorite, The Alligator Farm. Also on the river in Welaka is Andersen’s Lodge.

Of course all the locals still enjoy riding The Loop and BikerOrNot.com usually has a group ride for those who may not be certain about exploring on your own. We have included a separate article for those who may want to take the trip solo!

The event is no longer just on Main Street as those of us who attend regularly know, but for the newbies the areas to hit are outlined below.

The Main Street Area

In Daytona you have Shark’s Lounge (a gentleman’s club), Dirty Harry’s, Boot Hill and Froggy’s (there is a bike show on the Boardwalk date TBA).

The Ormond Beach Area

At Destination Daytona there’s Saints & Sinners. Nearby is Cheater’s (a gentleman’s club) , Annie Oakley’s, Iron Horse and Broken Spoke.

In Korona

Be sure to stop at the White Eagle. It’s right at the end of the loop.

The Bunnell Area

There’s the Black Cloud Saloon, Ice House, Choppers & Chaps all on US 1. The Dog Pound is around the corner on Route 100.

On CR 2006

Out a bit in the country on a boat landing is a beer & wine bar that serves food called Linda’s Landing. There is a bridge out so call first for directions 386-206-9377.

On A1A

The bars with pretty views are the upstairs deck of Finn’s and Chillin’ at the Beach.

Palm Coast Area

Visit Scruffy’s and Smiles they are biker friendly bars.

Finally, if you ride out 40 through the Ocala National Forest stop to eat at the Blackwater Inn on the river. We also have Steel Around Tavern to cool your pipes and Sparky’s Place that serves food.

Camping is available at Holiday Travel Park, the White Eagle and Thunder Gulch Campground.
