Filling Back Packs For The Children’s Home Society

By Lulu

The back cover of Thunder Roads Florida has been sponsored by the Rue & Ziffra law firm for the past several years. Their logo includes the line “in your community on your side” and I am here to tell you there isn’t a truer statement in advertising. Whether it is events for downed bikers to getting the word out about the yearly 911 Memorial Ride…David Sweat and his crew from their firm stand up for our community. Attorney David Sweat even puts his kickstand up and actually rides with us FREQUENTLY!

This time the event was for back packs and school supplies for over 200 children in a three county area. The Children’s Home Society found themselves in need, and short of funds, for this year’s school term. When Denise Hilliard from First Turn Steakhouse and Jessica Eckelbarger and the team from Rue & Ziffra put the word out that we would try to help…over 100 bikers showed up and raised $3,370 and over 100 back packs filled with school supplies. Supplies are still coming in! Special thanks to Kim and the White Eagle Lounge for not only bringing a posse of folks to ride on the short police escorted ride; they also donated over 40 back packs. Also a special thank you to the wonderful crew from Rolling Thunder FL Chapter 8 for always helping out in the parking lot and being so involved in community events! We also had Blue Knights ride in from Flagler County, Palm Coast Red Knights, Knights of the Inferno and folks from CMA. Also a big thank you to some special girls from Seabreeze and Father Lopez high schools to help register riders!

With raffle tickets and a 50/50 we raised about $1500, but a VERY special person in the audience doubled it!!! I just love bikers!!! Miller’s provided a set of expensive pipes, please remember them the next time you need bike pieces. Daytona Beverage donated a year supply of beer and my friend John walked away with that prize. A guitar was donated to the Children Home Society for a boy who had a desire to learn guitar by Anthony Wild. And on that note, the Chris Hiatt band played all evening and as always they rocked.

Look for our event to help the hungry during the holidays and help us make it the biggest food run of the year the date is Saturday, December 1st!
