May 2012 Thunder Rider Featured Bike

By Lulu

Ed

I personally have always liked the look of a yellow bike. I think they are far more noticeable on the road, but I suppose my friend, Shane’s yellow bike was what first made me like the look of a yellow Harley speeding down the highway.

Our featured bike this month belongs to Ed Grow and is his beloved 1999 Wide Glide that he bought used with only 1500 miles on it, simply because in his words it was a “neat looking” bike. The yellow pearl color called to him. He bought it thinking it would eventually be a great bike for his wife Jo Ann, but she has remained a back seat girl up to date. The bike shares his garage with a 2003 Anniversary Edition gold Screaming Eagle, which is the bike they generally ride. Ed has had bikes most of his life starting as many do on mini bikes and acquired his first Harley at 14. He has had over 7 Harleys over the years.

The couple transplanted from Watkins Glen, New York where they started a vineyard and winery. Their winery received the first Governor’s Trophy for Best Wine in New York. They sold “the farm” in 1978 to move to Florida to retire, choosing the Daytona area due to the weather and their passion for NASCAR.

When asked about his love of motorcycles he replied he just loves the “lifestyle” and Jo Ann chimed in that she loves the poker runs and benefits and being able to participate in good causes.

Jo Ann and Ed are really nice folks that I am so glad I got a chance to know a bit better by this contest and look forward to spending more time with them in the near future!
