Nobodies Opinion August 2012

Kneecap

By Billy “Kneecap” Braddock

The other day I was told by one of my readers that I was very outspoken and opinionated, hence the title of the article. Lately, guns have been the topic of everyday news media. We’ve had stories about Fast and Furious, concealed weapon carry laws, the Stand Your Ground Law and United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.

Let’s first look at Fast and Furious. Until someone tells me otherwise, the only explanation for this program is to prop up the losing gun control argument.

25 years ago only a handful of states had concealed carry programs, when the violent crime rate peaked. Today 41 states either allow carrying without a permit or have “shall issue” laws making it easier for non-criminals to get a permit. The trend has increased tremendously over the last few years, with concealed carry background checks at an all time high of 16.5 million last year, and checks up 10% in 2012 over the same period. There are two examples where the right to bear arms is explicitly prohibited: Illinois and Washington, DC. In DC violent crime is up 40%, and, barely 6 months into 2012 Chicago has already hosted 228 homicides. How can that be? DUH!!!

The “Stand Your Ground Law” states that a person may use force in self-defense when there is reasonable belief of a threat without the obligation to retreat. More than half the states have adopted the Castle doctrine, which states that a person has no duty to retreat when their home is attacked. “Stand Your Ground”, “Line in the Sand”, or “No Duty to Retreat” laws state that a person has no duty to abandon or give up ground to an assailant. In an academic study on these laws by John Lott, it shows that states adopting “Stand Your Ground” or “Castle doctrine” laws reduced murder rates by 9% and overall violent crime by 11%.

The United Nations (which should be called the Useless Nations) Arms Trade Treaty will strip U.S. gun owners of their Second Amendment rights. They want this treaty to cover all types of conventional weapons, notably including small arms and light weapons and all types of munitions. Our Constitution is being torn to shreds, but we must uphold the Second Amendment. We don’t need more gun control. We the people need to control our government better. History doesn’t lie. Gun control paves the way for genocide. Police protection is an oxymoron. Police can’t protect you from crime. As hard as they try, they usually end up just investigating the crime after it happens. I don’t carry a gun because I hate government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government. There comes a time in every man’s life when he stops bustin’ knuckles and starts bustin’ caps. Usually it’s when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin’.

My girlfriends birthday is August 13, (she will be 39+s&h) so I bought her a case of .380mm rounds and I’m hoping she won’t use them on me. If you see her that day, buy her a beer, so she stays mellow.

Question of the month “If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, do the eco-freaks still make noise?” Maybe what we need in this country is more open minds and fewer open mouths!

By the way, I was right. I did get a new pooper scooper for Father’s Day. However, it came with a cute card that said on the front, “I poop. You scoop”. On the inside, it read “I guess we were made for each other”.

See you on the shiny side of tomorrow…
