Okeechobee Bike Fest 2011

By Desirae Crane

Well Folk, Okeechobee was rockin the house again on May 7th in Flagler Park on Main Street. (Even the Love Bugs couldn’t keep us away!!!!!) 100’s of riders from all over the state came out to celebrate this year. So much fun was had! Every year it gets bigger and better. Celebrating their 4th annual Bike Fest with Dumpster Mike, Wayne Purvis and Fool Moon rockin’ the day away, they gave the riders entertainment and a day to get to meet new friends and have a great time with old ones.

With about 40 vendors they were sure to find something new to take home as a commemorative or to fill their belly with so many choices of food and drinks. This year’s poker run benefited the KOA Cancer Kids Camp bringing in 100’s of dollars, knowing it will never be enough but it helps those children have a little more hope.

The Rim Ditch Passport tour which is a year long event, was a success as 20 establishments such as Pier II Resort, J&S Fishcamp, Butch’s Back Yard Bar, Baracudas, Iron Eagle, The Duck Pub, The Tiki Bar at Roland Martin’s, Big Mike’s, Brewski’s, Good Spirits participated, and so many more with the last stop being at Treasure Coast Harley in Stuart. They all joined in to give us a chance to win $500 or $250, depending on how many places you got your passport stamped during the year.

The cash awards went to: Ruth and Bud Inmger for the $500 for getting all 20 stops in, and Steve Cates got the $250 award for getting at least half the book stamped. Bike show prizes went to Lisa Abernathy of Ft. Pierce for Best Custom and Randy Fike of Jupiter for Best All- American.

Next year the event will be held on April 14th. Hopefully the love bugs will decide to wait and come out later, LOL. And don’t forget to pick up the new Rim Ditch Passport for the chance to win next year!!!!! I want to give a huge shout out and hugs to Dan “Slow Motion” Henderson with “bikeronlineguide.com” and State Rep for ABATE of Palm Beach for helping out with the pictures. MUAH Dan. You’re the best!!!!!Ya’ll ride safe and see yas next year; I’ll be the one having all the fun and laughter!!! ROCK ON OKEECHOBEE!!!!!
