Tampa Bay Ride for Kids 2011
By Deborah Speicher
Last year, a fellow riding buddy asked me to support an annual ride that he had been doing for some years now. So on Sunday, November 6, 2011 I joined him and about 300 other riders for the annual Ride for Kids to benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The ride started and ended at the Walter Heinrich Training Center out on County Road 39 in Lithia, which gave us a great starting point for some scenic riding. Read the rest of this entry »

As we end the year, I have so much to be thankful for and so much to be hopeful for in 2012. Thankful is for the family and friends that I have in the biker community. Thankful is that I haven’t needed them to rally around me for any catastrophe. Thankful is that my friends who have faced grave illness or injuries, this year are still here…cured, in remission, healed or still fighting a brave fight! Hey, you all know me...maybe...but at any rate, I tell it like it is, and so it is with Spooks & Scoots, 2011. This event (the 31st Annual) had just about all the negative crap you could think of going against it this year: the recession, other local events, and…the weather. All these things made for a smaller crowd...smaller yes, but not less enthusiastic! Read the rest of this entry »
Thunder Rider Featured Bike… Red Theme
My name is Roy (Rooster) McCorkle. I have been riding since 1975, and I have been teaching motorcycle safety training since 2000. I got this bike during Bike Week 2008 from Destination Daytona.
This bike is very important to me, for it was this bike I was riding in May of that year when I got hit by a car which put me in the hospital for 14 days. Read the rest of this entry »
Welcome Home Celebration
By Metric and Phoenix
[singlepic id=2298 w=150 h=113 float=left]By the time you read this article Veterans Day will have come and gone, but in my mind every day should be Veterans Day. If it was not for the Veterans we would not have a need to celebrate any day. Of all the wars that the United States of America has been involved in the Vietnam War Veteran returned home to a much different “Welcome Home” than previous wars Read the rest of this entry »

County by County Riding Florida…Putnam
Home of the St. John’s River Blues Festival
By Lulu
As I was heading west on 100 out of Bunnell in search of the Putnam County line I was surprised to see a highway marker that read “Welcome to Bike Friendly Putnam County”. This is a great weekend destination for those of you who enjoy riding open country roads. And no better weekend to do that than Nov. 11-13th during their Annual St. Johns River Blues Festival. We had a great time at this event last year held in the downtown historic area of Palatka. We really enjoyed Billy Ennis from Downtown Blues Club and the wonderful music in his club, and on the outdoor stages. Vendors lined the street and made a carnival atmosphere for the 3 day event. Historic Palatka is known as the City of Murals with over 20 murals depicting Putnam. They have some beautiful old homes and still have many brick roads off S. 18th St. Their Welcome Center on St. John’s Ave. has maps for the historic homes and mural locations. Nobodies’ Opinion November 2011
By Billy”Kneecap”Braddock
I love November for three reasons. One is because I get to celebrate my birthday. My friend said, “At your age birthdays should not make you happy.”I said, “Are you kidding? The more I have, the longer I live, plus I get to go to Roscoe’s Chili Challenge.” Read the rest of this entry »Thunder Rider Featured Bike… Flames

Bull’s Eye November 2011
By Lulu
This month we found our Bull’s Eye in Sebring at the Ride to the Heartland event. Reverend Jim, as he is known, is the owner of Preachers Cycle Promotions and the creative mind behind the 1st Church of the Apehangers which he started in 1990. He was surrounded by men equally amusing such as Aloha Terry, his Minister of Propaganda and Zane, Minister of Media. The bike shop is Preachers Hot Rod Cycle Designs. Jim Goodrich was born in Olean, New York in 1952 and stated “I was a jerk off by the age of 12”. His first bike he built at the age of 13 out of scrapped and “borrowed” parts. He rode it without brakes, stopping it by running into bushes; and that was how his love of motorcycles began. Read the rest of this entry »
Pony Tales November 2011
Below is a letter written by the wife of a man severely injured in a bike v/s car accident by a young girl who tried to flee the scene. When her father arrived the wife of the injured man was unaware that prior to her arrival the father of the young girl had been ranting about bikers “thinking they owned the road” and about bikers being “nothing but druggies”. The wife came to the defense of the father unaware of what was said that enraged the other bikers at the scene. This is her letter written a bit later. The letter to the father says it all… Read the rest of this entry »
Red Knight’s 10th 9-11 Memorial Ride
By Lulu
Marking the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 the Red Knight's Memorial Ride was overwhelming. There was an outpour of support from the public and it was beyond amazing. Thanks to the help of the community involved law firm of Rue & Ziffra and the organizational skills of Jessica Eckelbarger from their firm, over 6,800 bikers formed an 11 mile ribbon of bikes to ride the 67 mile tribute ride.
