Gator Harley-Davidson 13th Annual Women’s Day Conference

By Deborah Speicher

w conf

Gator Harley never ceases to amaze me with the themes for their annual Women’s Day Conference. This year was “Fifty Shades of Gator H-D” which was reflected in the decorations and entertainment for the day.

What worked in the past was brought back – head mechanic, Mike Williams, and representatives from Ride Smart Florida. Ride Smart Florida had Dr. Michael Cheatham speak to the group about accidents and how to treat certain types of injuries involving bleeding. There was also a hands-on portion which earned every participant a certificate of completion for learning basic skills to control bleeding. Important skills if you are ever at the scene of an accident.

Speaker Laurie Ann Leach, owner of Zen Healthy Living, specializes in hands-on holistic healthcare. Laurie spoke about “it’s your time” and how to make that happen.

Once again, the fashion show exhibited how H-D offers clothing that is stylish for all ages and sizes. Getting a 20% discount on all motorclothes was also a bonus for attendees!

The highlight of the entire day were the male dancers who doubled as models and servers before their final show for the ladies. All I can say was you had to be there to really enjoy this eye candy!

Job well done goes to Jan Wilde Wideman and the Gator Harley staff, Gourmet Today for breakfast and lunch, and all of the vendors, speakers and our massage therapist (yep, FREE chair massages!).

See you next year!

15th Annual Easter Bunny Toy Run at Six Bends Harley-Davidson

By Ron Cox

B run 18

Despite the threat of rain, several hundred riders and passengers registered at Six Bends Harley-Davidson (Ft. Myers) to ride in the 15th Annual Easter Bunny Toy Run. The ride is traditionally held on the Saturday before Easter Sunday, this year the ride took place on March 31st. Riders had the option of registering for $10 which included coffee, pastries, a commemorative patch and lunch; or as VIP registered riders/passengers they received a breakfast sandwich and a t-shirt along with everything else.

Escorted by motors and RMP’s from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the riders brought all kinds of toys, boxed games and arts/craft supplies. At the request of the hospital staff, we were asked to add teethers, rattles, boys & girls pajamas, music & light toys, gift cards, RC toys, Bluetooth speakers and Lego toys for the patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Health Park.

While mingling with the ambulatory patients brought to the entrance, the riders received a heartfelt welcome from Armando Liechu, Chief Administrative Officer of the hospital. Liechu also thanked everyone for their 15 years of continued support.

Upon returning to Six Bends, everyone was treated to pizza and soft drinks for lunch. A good way to start the Easter weekend.

Earl’s Hideaway Host of the Lion’s Club Poker Run

By Lulu

Lion Run

In Sebastian one of our favorite places to listen to great music is Earl’s Hideaway. When we drove down to attend the Lion’s Club Bikes 4 Sight Poker Run we had an extra special treat and Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers from New Orleans were onstage doing that crazy music that Bourbon Street is known for. The poker run stopped at Captain Hiram’s, Malabar Mo’s, Space Coast H-D, Sebastian Beach Inn and the Tiki Bar. Check out Earl’s if you are traveling the east coast. Thursdays they have bike night and they have Blues music on Sundays!

Goodbye to Chris and Crash at Boot Hill Saloon

By Lulu

bye chris

People come and go in our lives. Some touch us with kindness. Some you would just as soon forget! But to be touched by music that weaves itself into the very fabric of who we are is special! And for all of us who have been entertained by Chris Hiatt and Crash over the last 8 years or so, we are gonna miss those boys! I worry who the bars that hired them on a regular basis will find to fill their shoes. Their move to Arizona is probably a much-needed change of scenery for the two. No sense in life getting stale. When you have talent you just move and find new fans…but Chris and Crash are revisiting a place where it kind of started so I am sure Arizona music lovers are happy and eagerly awaiting their return. Boot Hill was packed the night we watched their final show at the Boot. A going away cake was served. Somehow, I think they will sneak back into town for special events such as Bike Week or Biketoberfest so although it was a bit sad, pretty sure I will hear that guitar rip and drums beat again.

Cool Joint: Cedar Key Bed & Breakfast

By Lulu

Cool J Key

Fairly new to staying at bed & breakfast spots…we are always a bit anxious as to what we will experience. This was our second time to stay at one and Cedar Key Bed & Breakfast was more than we expected. The room was comfortable and like stepping back in time. The brass bed was deliciously comfortable. Each room has a private bath and central heat & air. Wi-Fi is provided. For, those on 2 and 3 wheels, that travel with their pet this is pet friendly. Huge oak branches spanned the entire yard giving that much needed shade to sit and enjoy visiting with friends. This bed and breakfast has 7 rooms in the main house, a Treehouse suite and a 2-bedroom Sunrise Suite off the main site which includes a full kitchen directly on the gulf. So, large groups can plan a great weekend getaway. Breakfast is served at 9 and our mornings fare was homemade waffles, eggs, sausage, and fruit. The coffee was perfectly brewed. They are famous for their scrumptious delights that fill the bottomless cookie jar. Cedar Key is a sleepy gulf front town with waterfront restaurants and bars within walking distance from the B&B. For those of you who prefer bicycles and golf carts are available to rent. Alice Phillips-Oakley is the gracious owner and hostess and would love to have you come visit. Rooms sometime require a 2-night minimum but not on off season.

Kayaking, canoeing, and fishing charters are what this area of Florida offers. The small-town charm of Cedar Key is worth exploring for a spontaneous weekend getaway! So, book it now 352-543-9000 and enjoy the ride to 310 3rd Street in Cedar Key! Or if you are afraid of the heat of the summer on your bike reserve for the cooler weather of the fall! Tell Alice we said hello.

Tilted Kilt Kicked Off Bike Night Season with Crowd Favorite Bobby Friss

By Lulu

tilted k

Well, the terrible weather prediction didn’t keep anyone away, although few bikes were in the parking lot. Tilted Kilt had to move the band inside and the place was standing room only! The sexy barmaids and waitresses were hopping, trying to get everyone served. Out on the porch, a fundraiser for a local girl had ladies in Bucks for Becky shirts busy selling auction items, 50/50 and Jell-O shots. As always, anywhere I go when Bobby Friss is on the stage people are going to be entertained and the place will be packed. Tilted Kilt’s Bike Nights are always the first Saturday of the month with great live entertainment. On June 2nd it will be Jack Knife! So, whether you are north, south, east or west, Ocala is within a nice afternoon ride…get on your bike and RIDE to Marion County at 3155 Silver Springs Boulevard!

Let’s Ride Grand Opening

By Lulu

lets ride

Let’s Ride had their open house…grand opening in April and the weather Gods didn’t treat them kindly. The band was set up in a huge outdoor space behind their new place in Port Richey at 7422 SR 52. Their new location went through major renovations to get ready for your shopping pleasure and it really looks nice! There was a bike show, food vendor and Big Daddy Don Garlits was onsite signing autographs and taking pictures with the folks. The Bearded Brothers Band pretty much got rained out at the time we left trying to outrun the rain to our next stop in Orlando. Stop in and see Lisa at her new place!!

Lady Riders’ Event at Skip’s Boots Fills the Parking Lot

By Lulu

Lady Riders

What a perfect place to stage a massive motorcycle event! Skip’s Boots on International Speedway in Daytona not only has a huge parking lot. It had shopping!!! A perfect combination for a lady rider event. The Ribbon Riders attempted to break the world record of the most women on their own bike and although they fell short of their goal well over 600 bikes filled the parking lot! Not bad for the first try in during Bike Week. If you haven’t been into Skip’s new location it carries everything a woman wants! Boots of all styles including a huge selection of Harley boots, lots of bling on belts and jewelry, great cowboy hats to keep that sun off our pretty faces, jeans and other apparel that we all love at reasonable prices!!! Devin and the staff at Skip’s are always happy to help!

The after party was hosted by Broken Spoke with lunch provided by attorney Russ Brown. Grab a girlfriend next time they try to take the world record from the United Kingdom. We American lasses should be able to come up with 1132 girls on bikes just in the state of Florida alone!!!!

When Disaster Strikes!!!

by Phoenix and Metric-HD

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Recently, a local family lost everything in a devastating fire. The family lost their home and their business located below their home in the historic downtown Sebring district. To ease the pain and agony of this disaster, the WARLOCK MC took the lead on organizing a benefit ride for the family and the whole community stepped in to help. The ride started at the Warlock Clubhouse and headed south to Jaxson’s Bar and Grill on beautiful Lake June, home of the original Tuesday night BIKE NIGHT. From Jaxson’s we headed to one of my favorite stops, Bo David’s Restaurant where every Tuesday is Veteran’s Appreciation Day. Winding our way through the scenic outback of the county, we made our way to the clubhouse of the Veterans-in-Arms VMC, home of some of the youngest combat veterans in the county, for a quick pit stop. On the road again, we headed to the iconic Tap Room in Avon Park. The Tap Room has been hosting bike events, as well as, being deeply rooted in the community for years. The final stop on the benefit ride was at the newest hot spot in the biker community, the WILD HAWG. The WILD HAWG provided the awesome food and music to cap off a fantastic ride for a great cause. Thanks to everyone for pitching in to help this family in need. This is what we do in the Biker Community. GOD BLESS!!!!

Burning Bike and Hot Bikinis at Fastlane Campground

By Lulu

burning bike

I’m still not certain if the huge wooden motorcycle (taller than most buildings in Daytona, by the way!) was set ablaze or suffered spontaneous combustion due to the HOT girls in skimpy bikinis! Either way, what an amazing spectacle the Burning Bike becomes as it blazes across the dark skies. All week during Bike Week you can view and sign the monstrosity at the Volusia County Fairgrounds, but to see it burn you arrive at sundown and girls in bikinis entertain you in a super-hot bikini contest until time for the fiery show. During the week they also host camping, live music, vendors, and bike shows. Their website is FASTLANEDAYTONA.COM.

Pony Tales May 2018

Since Kneecap passed away the magazine hasn’t had a political, right wing column. And everywhere I go people tell me how much they miss not only “his opinion”, but also his humor! I can’t really be funny, but I have something political to state! There is no way I can deny I am a Republican. I want every sane person in the USA to own a gun, although I don’t. I want every illegal immigrant to either start a process to be legal or get the hell out! I want the Wall and I don’t give a damn who pays for it. I want the flag, the military, the police and firemen to be respected. And if by some chance a phone looks like a gun to a cop, so be it. If you see blue lights in your rearview mirror or someone knocks on your door with a badge, you better be on your knees with your hands behind your head until the law says, “You can relax”! The work the cops do every friggin’ day is dangerous! What happened to the saying, “Police, stop or we will shoot”? People used to put their hands up and freeze, now they just start videoing with a cell phone or run! They think being pulled over by a cop is a good shot at winning the lawsuit lottery. I don’t condone police brutality or profiling, but if you are in a crime infested neighborhood you should realize the cops are on edge the moment they punch the time clock! For your own safety, please do everything you can to protect yourself from the appearance of being a threat to them. I think the government should run TV commercials on how to protect yourself from being perceived as a criminal. By this point, if I haven’t offended half of my readers it is only because most of us who ride love America and our constitution. If I have offended any liberals who ride I am sorry; but, when Hillary wants to say that the females who voted for Trump voted for him because their husbands or bosses coerced them into it…I get angry. I voted for Trump because Hillary was an awful candidate, and he beat out all the other possible Republicans. I also was given an Ancestry DNA kit for Christmas that showed I was 10% Russian…so send the FBI and CIA to my house – I must be part of the never ending Russian collusion!!

Did I mention I am a member of the NRA although I don’t own a gun?
Thank a cop or fireman for the job they do, stand tall when you hear the National Anthem, and when you’re on the bike – don’t forget your sunscreen!

Rocking & Riding at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson

By Lulu

Brucemeyers Harley

For Bike Week 2018 the grounds of Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson were teeming with shoppers. The Flaunt Girls put on aerial shows under the pavilion, Rhett Rotten’s Wall of Death and Urias Family Globe of Steel put on shows all week long at no cost. There was Powerhouse Arm Wrestling Contests, AMCA Bike Show put on by the Sunshine Chapter and Mark Brodie’s American V-Twin Custom Bike Show. Live music filled the stage including the Razorbacks on St. Patty’s Day. But the main reason people visit the dealership during Bike Week is to SHOP. Whether they are looking for a new or used bike or to find something new at the huge vendor area there is too much to check out in only one day. So, during Bike Week 2018 they served Kegs and Eggs daily to start every day of your Bike Week right!

As if Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson didn’t have enough to keep them busy this spring with Bike Week, motorcycle sales, weekly events at the dealership, remodeling the second floor and more…Mandy and Shelley did their yearly Sunrise to Sunset trip across the state and we were lucky enough to get to ride along! One thing those Rossmeyer girls love to do is RIDE! The ride this year started on the beach at Granada in Ormond Beach with sunrise at 7:01am. First stop was breakfast at Peach Valley and then off for a glorious day of riding to Cedar Key. We arrived without incident and checked in to Cedar Key Bed & Breakfast. Our room was the Honeymoon Room and the bed was perfect! The grounds of the B&B had awesome old oaks and lots of interesting places to sit and enjoy our company. The big surprise of this trip was a friend of the Rossmeyer’s hosted a low country boil for sunset at his home. I have had a lot of great low country boils, but this surpassed all!! The chef added cauliflower, asparagus, whole okra and brussels sprouts and it was perfectly seasoned!!

Check out their website for the monthly activities at BRHD.com; something is always going on from classes for new riders to live music and fun!!
