Often we are asked to attend events and when we cross the state for it we have no idea what to expect. Often shows that are billed as major end up being only a handful of bikes in a Wal-Mart shopping center. Not so when we traveled down to Dania Beach for their 6th Annual Vintage Motorcycle Show at Frost Park.

This event presented by the City of Dania Beach and the AMCA Sunshine Chapter was impressive. Well over 6,000 in attendance and 229 bikes. To enter in the event the bikes had to be 35 years or older and there were hundreds of bikes on display in categories that included military, American, European, Japanese, English, Competition, Scooter, Rat, Chopper and Café. Add to that…a great twist which was an antique bicycle display.

Everywhere you looked there were vintage bikes! The event included a motorcycle skill team demonstration, field games, vendors, skateboard demos, a swap meet, food and roller derby girls.

The biggest surprise happened quite by accident. The fabulously talented Billy Joel sat in with the band, The Whipping Post, and treated the crowd to a taste of his keyboard skills and vocals. It was just a perfect moment! After he finished he let us hang with him until he was ready to leave and then snap a picture of him on his Moto Guzzi (check out Thunder Cam). He actually has 70+motorcycles and a museum in Oyster Bay, New York which he invited me to come visit this August!!!
