Nobodies Opinion March 2011

Nobodies Opinion Header

Here it is “Bike Week 2011”.  This year we will experience 4 unusual
dates…1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/11.  NOW, go figure this out.
Take the last 2 digits of the year you were born plus the age you will
be this year and it will equal 111. Bike week born 1937 and will be 74
this year. 37+74=111. Cool !!

If you’re not from Florida let me give you some vital info.  We have two seasons which are both determined by the thermostat, Heat and A/C, which usually occur in the same day.

Cages in front of you often appear to be driven by headless people.  Don’t ever assume that the cage with the flashing turn signal is actually going to make a turn. Don’t scream obscenities at little old ladies who drive 30 MPH on the Interstate. YOU JUST SAY, “Bless her heart”… and go on your own way.

Possums and Armadillos are small animals that sleep in the middle of the road.

Florida is also multi-lingal. We speak English, Spanish, Brooklynize, Bostonize, Alabamanize, Redneckize, etc. etc… You won’t need a translator if you understand “youse” can be singular or plural, but “youse guys” is unequivocally plural. “Y’all” is singular and “all y’all is plural.

Let’s get to the theme of this column, OPINION. I always say “nobody’s perfect” and I’m nobody, so I must be perfect. With that in mind; here comes my opinion.

The theme for this Bike Week should be “Freedom”.  Bikers excel in the desire to be free. Thus, the saying “Ride Free or Die, Death is not the worst of evils”. This dates back to the Revolutionary War, but then they used the word “Live” instead of “Ride” because the motorcycle had yet to be invented. Freedom is on the march, unfortunately it’s in retreat. Our government is out of control, not only at the federal level but right down to petty officials. I don’t want anarchy. We need a government for defense and infrastructure, but not to run every part of our lifes. We don’t need to be told what to eat when our corn is being turned into a fuel that destroys engines. We don’t need to be forced to use a curly fry, mercury filled light bulb that needs the Hazardous Material Unit for disposal should it be broken. At every turn there is another agency, like the EPA, Dept. of Energy, etc., trying to impede capitalistic progress. The worst is the Dept. of Education.  100 yrs. ago 2 out of 10 adults couldn’t read or write and only 6% graduated high school. We are heading in that direction. Hell, today some graduates can’t read their diploma. This nation can’t remain free unless its citizens reduce the size of government and increase the power of the people.

See you on the shiny side of tomorrow…
