Here we are in September and most students are back in school. First, we miss define the word student. The term refers to a person who is engaged in learning. Have you talked to a High School graduate lately? Da! Also, the term public school (pronounced and spelled “screw-all”) is also ill defined. As defined by radio talk show host, Neal Boortz, we should be calling them government schools. Makes sense. After all, they are owned and operated by the government. Micah and I had an opportunity to do something so awesome I just have to share it. We were in Monroe County (Key Largo to Key West) doing the research for September’s article County by County Riding Florida and happened to stay at the Hampton Inn in Key Largo. While walking past the poolside Tiki bar Micah noticed an unusual “pen like” area in the waters adjacent to the hotel property and asked the bartender what it was. She told us it was the Marine Mammal Conservancy and that they were seeking volunteers to save a pilot whale. On the weekend of July 30 and 31, Gator Harley-Davidson (Leesburg) threw a fantastic party to celebrate their 18th anniversary. There was plenty going on both days. We had a special treat while traveling back the Blue Ridge Parkway from our DC trip. In Maggie Valley, North Carolina Dale Walksler has an unbelievable collection of some of the oldest and rarest motorcycles from as far back as 1903! Bull’s Eye August 2011

This month’s Bull’s Eye is a well known biker in the Daytona/Ormond area it is Troy Robertson. Troy was born in Gibson Station, Virginia and moved to Florida in 1994 for better riding weather and “to escape ex-wives”. He started riding at 9 years old on dirt bikes and credits his father for introducing him to the world of motorcycles. Troy spent a bit of his life drag racing bikes when “I was young and more stupid than I am now!” Now bikes are his livelihood and passion. He currently rides a 1993 Screaming Eagle Springer. County by County Riding Florida…Bradford-Home of the Starke Bike Fest

As bikers we love to explore and a great destination for August is Bradford County. August 26th-28th in downtown historic Starke is the 6th Annual Starke Bike Fest with live music including Big Engine, a tattoo contest, “Porta Potty Pulls”, best tan contest and a 2 day bike show.
