Iron Horse Saloon Host of the ARC Ride
By Amy Poole
The ARC of Volusia is a wonderful facility that helps individuals with developmental disabilities that strive for independence and self-sufficiency. ARC offers a wide range of opportunities for these individuals, so they have a sense of purpose in their daily activities. ARC helps those in need with their education, skills, everyday living and many other programs. I met some of the staff from ARC the day of the Ride and saw how “delighted they are to help these individuals with things that are easy for us, but are extremely important to those who need the help.” ARC has special folks that take part in this daily task. They hold several events a year for fundraising and one of those was the most recent…The ARC Ride.
Registration began in the morning at the Iron Horse Saloon with clear skies and the rumble of 79 bikes riding for a great cause. Stops taking part in the ride were Cabbage Patch, OB’s, Pork Chop’s Alibi Bar (thank you Bobby & Dawn for the snacks!), and White Eagle. Back at the Horse was Big Engine jamming and Sabrett the Hot Dog Man was dishing out dogs and kielbasa for our complimentary lunch. The 50/50 winner donated back the monies to ARC and it was our very own Beth, editor of Thunder Roads, who had the best hand.
BIG thanks goes out to the Iron Horse Saloon for their tremendous help and support and to ALL the sponsors and donations…bringing in $1760.00! If you would like more info you can visit their website at www.arcvolusia.org.

Pony Tales August 2012
By Lulu
Motorcycle accidents are often avoidable by alert driving on our part, but occasionally out of nowhere we are taken out by deer, bears or idiots behind the wheels of a cage or unskilled bikers riding along with us.
A friend of mine who is an excellent rider with countless miles on his Harley was Read the rest of this entry »
Knights of Inferno Are the “White Knights” For Little Cooper Ascone
By Lulu
A brand new motorcycle club in the Palm Coast area is the Knights of Inferno comprised of bikers affiliated with firefighting. And, as we all are aware, firefighters are heroes! But every once in awhile, a hero needs a “white knight” to lend a helping hand, so when a 23 month old child of a Palm Coast firefighter, Cooper Ascone, needed some financial assistance due to heart problems requiring multiple open heart surgeries, the Knights of Inferno didn’t hesitate to tackle the job of throwing together a run.
The first date was a total wash out due to heavy rains. They rescheduled and Read the rest of this entry »

Dirty Harry’s Hosted the Razorbacks
Dirty Harry’s Bar-B-Que couldn’t have been any hotter or more crowded, but what a great way to spend Funday Sunday. The Bank was loaded with peeps for the Razorback show…and maybe the air conditioning? I saw the Razorbacks twice in a week and seeing many of the same faces at both shows goes to tell you... Every day is a learning day for me. And last month I really got taught a lesson. Years ago, I was told don't sign your credit card. The reason being, anyone who takes your card has a sample of your signature, which they can not only use on any charge slip, but on your checks as well. So, I always Read the rest of this entry »
July 2012 Thunder Rider Featured Bike
Owner ~ Tony Giles ~ Daytona Beach
Bike ~ 2004 Heritage Softail
I’m in my 50’s and I’m living the dream. And what better place to live than Florida? I’m a veteran, a business professional and an old school biker. I’ve been riding for over 40 years and I hope able to ride many more. That ole Triumph Chopper back in the mid seventies got me hooked and I’ve been riding ever since. Many in the biker community know me as “Dream Catcher” because of my beautiful tattoo on my back. Motorcycle riding has brought me many life-long friends, and has also provided me the means to meet fellow enthusiasts around the world.
I am a biker. Being a biker means you enjoy the company of other riders over anyone else, for that reason most of my friends ride. I believe that it’s all about the ride, the good times we have along the way and the people you meet and share those good times with. I believe in what a true “brother” or “sister” really means and that special bond that comes with it. Being a biker means you do not go along with the normal flow or care about what people think, except those who are your true friends. Bikers live their lives the way they want. Bikers love the freedom riding gives us. If we want to look a certain way, or wear a certain type of clothing, then I know the real biker community will accept that and the rest can just walk away shaking closed-minded heads.
My Heritage Softail is the perfect “Old School” bike. It’s the nostalgia look that I love. It’s two inches lower than stock, and although I’m over 6 feet tall it fits me like a glove. Riding my Heritage Softail is one of my true pleasures of life. I ride solo or with friends, weekend events, or to cross country rallies. I’m always ready to roll. And since I’ve added a few extra’s for my “precious cargo”, she’s always comfy and rides with a smile.
I own and ride 2 Harley’s. Other than my Heritage, I own a custom 98 FXDWG I call the “Monster”. She’s stretched, racked and lowered. And when I feel the need for some additional horse power I’ll take her for a ride along the coast. Yes, it’s a tough choice between the two. But love them both.
The sensation of the wind on your face, the hum of the engine beneath you, riding is an experience like none other. Riding is one of the few things I look forward to that allows me to step out side the boundaries a little bit. There’s a relationship you develop with the machine. The sound, the way it handles, that occasional wide open acceleration when you see the safe chance. It reminds me that I’m alive.
